Happy St. Patrick's Day

I picked up this little nugget today from day care. It was nice after having such an icky day.

That's a shamrock on her nose. We're German but it's still cute.

The weekend started off with a big bang. Literally.

Yesterday after school a friend of mine came over with a bottle of wine. Dan made a yummy dinner of seafood fettucini and we had some glasses of pinot.

As the night wore on we ended up heading over to The Croatian Hall in South St. Paul. It is within easy walking distance so we didn't need to drive. We had some drinks and met some crazy S. St. Paul yokels and just had a great time!

I noticed that my neighboor (whom I wave at every time I drive by his house) was at the other end of the bar so I went to chit chat with him. He is a great guy and his family has suffered some nasty tragedies within the last 8 months. His father died of cancer in July and his brother just died last weekend of cancer. His brother was diagnosed with cancer the same day Jeff (my neighboor) suffered a massive heart attack. Not a happy situation by any means.

It was getting late and we asked Jeff to walk us home since he lived so close. We made it home and right as we got into our cul-de-sac, Jeff slipped on the ice, fell backwards and smacked his head on the ice. Both Ashley and I at first didn't think it was bad but after a few seconds of NO RESPONSE from him we knew something was horribly wrong. We called 911 and he was starting to come around but he was rolling his eyes up into his head and unable to speak. It was sooooo scary. When he was starting to come around he was not too lucid.

As the paramedics were taking care of him we went up to his house to get someone to go with him to the hospital. It took about 5 minutes to get someone up. His nephew came out and we all walked to the ambulance. Jeff was already in the ambulance and was a lot more lucid at this point. They took him to the hospital and then Ashley and I went into my house to come off our adrenaline high. This all took place at 12:30 in the morning. My mom and dad were right. . . nothing good happens outside after dark.

I found out today that Jeff is still in the hospital. When he hit his head he had a brain bleed. He's supposed to make a full recovery but I still feel so scared and worried about the whole thing.

The family had the funeral today for his brother so Jeff couldn't even go to that. How sad.

I'll keep you updated when I find out more about his condition.

Here's proof

I love these pictures. I took them the other night while I was making dinner. Dan and Gracie were making Grace's school valentines at the kitchen table. I was cooking up something and Auddie was in her bouncer talking, talking, talking. I went over to her and got this nice big grin.

Gotta love it!

Auddie Smiles

Finally my little girl is smiling. ALL THE TIME! The irony? She smiles mostly at Wally who is mounted on the wall near her bouncer.

She smiles at him like he's telling her happy jokes! Apparently he is funny to her. He is funny to me also, but for completely different reasons.

Here's a pic of Wally again to refresh you . . . How can you help but not smile???

Just like daddy

This picture might be inappropriate and people might be annoyed but I can't help but post this.

I caught Grace doing this. . . her daddy would be so proud.

Two years

Dear mom,

It's been two years since you died. I can't believe that we have made it this long without you.

I wanted to write you a letter because you need to know that ALL OF US still love you and think about you daily. Each night during prayers Gracie and I say an extra blessing for you. We want God to help you know that we are thinking about you and love you and miss you dearly.

I'm really sad that you didn't get to know your grandchildren better. I'm sad that Gracie only has memories of you and most of them are fuzzy. She clearly remembers feeding you ice chips when you were in the hospital 4 days before you died. She loves to talk about how she told you to open wide and how you really enjoyed the ice chips. But she still has very little time invested in you. Megan has less and you didn't get a chance to hold Andrew, Benny, or your namesake Audrey. I hate that. I feel like all these kids got cheated. But worse than that I feel like you got cheated.

When it came to your grandkids you would do anything. You lived for them and they made you so happy. I have many friends that couldn't believe how much you did for your grandkids; clothes, sleepovers, special treats, picking up from daycare, etc. It's so unfair that you only got such a short time with them before you died. I know there's a reason for that. God always has a plan but I still wish I knew it. I don't know if it would make it any easier but I do like to be in the know.

I promise to keep your memory alive for my little ones. Grace has some tangible things but Little Audrey will only have stories. I will tell them about you and all the sacrifices you made as an Army wife and as a mom of me. I know that that was super hard!!

It is an honor to have my littlest daughter named after you. It makes me think of you more often than just daily. I hope that she will always live up to your name.

I love you and miss you so much.

Thanks for being my mom and always populating my memories.

Love,
Lori

Update on Grace

As you can see from the picture, she still loves her baby sister. In fact, she refers to her as "my baby". I couldn't be luckier!!
